Zone Heating System

Are there rooms in your house or office that get more heat than the others? Are there empty rooms in the house that don't require heat when it isn't occupied? Would you like to save money by being able to close those vents when no one is in there?

That's what a zone heating system will do for you!

There will be rooms that are always warmer or colder than others. There are many explanations for it. Some can be that heat rises so rooms on the second floor are hotter and rooms in the basements are colder, and rooms that receive too much sunlight are difficult to cool down and rooms that are in the shade are often difficult to heat up. Regardless, there's only one definite way to even out the temperature: through system zoning.

What is a zoning system? This involves multiple thermostats in different rooms or "zones" that are wired to a control panel, which opens and closes dampers within the duct work of your heating system. The dampers close to prevent heat from continuing to empty, unused rooms and open to bring heat into those rooms. Not only is this helpful with inconsistent temperatures, it's also great for rooms that desire different temperatures.

Can a zoned system save you money? Although the initial cost of installation is high, it can save you money in the long run. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, zoning can save up to 30-40% on the heating/cooling utility bill. Similar to a central heating system, heat is pushed through the duct work throughout your home. With a zoning system, rooms that are empty or don't require heat have their dampers closed. What this means is the heating system will be using less energy and power because of its closed dampers.

A zoning system is perfect for several types of buildings:

  • Large family homes
  • Apartment
  • Hotels
  • Commercial offices
  • Healthcare offices
  • School classrooms
  • Dormitories
  • Mall, outlets, and plazas
  • And many others
