Air Conditioning Evaporator Coils

What is the evaporator? The evaporator is a unit in an air conditioning system to allow a cooling chemical, such as R-22 or R-410A (aka freon), to evaporate from liquid to gas in order to transfer the heat out of your home or office. This process is cycled through the system until it reaches the desired temperature.

How does the evaporator work? After the liquid refrigerant passes the compressor and condenser, the pressure in the refrigerant is reduced turning it into a cool liquid. The evaporator coil then allows the liquid to evaporate which extracts heat from the surrounding air, lowering the room's air temperature.

How are the evaporator coils cleaned? Not every HVAC company does the cleaning the same way. Everyone has different methods and different routines. Some of the things we do are:

• Clean and lubricate the fan blades, shaft, and motor
• Brush surface dirt
• Spray-clean trapped dirt with biodegradable foaming cleaner
• Comb the fins with a "fin comb"
